History is the study of past events; or a record of people's lives, behaviour, culture and activities

WHY STUDY HISTORY?
  1. To identify your identity. If you disregard your past, you're likely going to lose your identity.
  2. To acquire an understanding of how a society or how people behave, their lives and acts. It's good to note that present societies are products of history, for example, how present countries came to be was a result of historical events.
  3. It equips us with the knowledge of what transpired in the past (basically we get to know how, why and when some things happened).
  4. It helps us comprehend current events.
  5. The study of history assists in the creation of a better social, political, cultural and economic order for present and future generations.
  6. To develop skills of research and analysis, which will be of great need later in life.
  7. It helps us prepare adequately for the future.
